When BCBS came to GA Studio, their data processing and disaster recovery components of operation were almost 30 years old and near the end of their useful life. Replacement was obvious. Because of the dependency and reliability needs in today’s healthcare world, GA Studio led the effort for design of a new certified Tier III data center, Alabama’s first as reviewed and accepted by the Uptime Institute for both design and construction. Also, recognizing the importance of developing an energy-efficient and sustainable building, BCBS decided to seek LEED Certification. Since LEED has no category for Free-Standing Data Centers, GA Studio’s building design pioneered innovative approaches and obtained LEED Gold.
