Giattina Aycock Architecture Studio Interiors Projects
BELLE MER PENTHOUSE
Having wrestled an ambitious condominium program onto a small lot on the Gulf of Mexico, Giattina Aycock Architecture Studio was asked to provide interior design for the developer’s vacation quarters at the tower’s top floor.
Sixteen stories above grade, the penthouse is at once immediately upon and light years away from the beach below. Allowing the outdoor setting and extensive indoor art collection to take center stage, the architects used a light palette, high volumes and clean details to define peaceful spaces.
Each room is punctuated with maple, travertine and glass in various forms, thicknesses and finishes. The entrance foyer functions as a gallery where art is displayed floor-to-ceiling and maple doors to the master bedroom hang as pieces in the exhibition. Anchored by a travertine floor, and capped with a skylit barrel vault, the living room is framed by a maple entertainment wall and a spectacular Gulf view through maple shutters. Tongue-and-groove wood paneling line a private study and common bar, one dark and the other light to reflect different moods and activities found at the beach.
Within these defined spaces, colors and textures of the Gulf shape an elegant version of beach vernacular for a business man, his family and his art.
