Giattina Aycock Architecture Studio Housing Projects
YWCA
Operating out of a 10-story high-rise constructed in 1925, Birmingham’s YWCA asked Giattina Aycock Architecture Studio to assess their building options: relocate, replace or restore?
The architects developed a Master Plan for the YWCA which restored and maximized the value of their existing historic structure, and reorganized their program for better efficiency, security, accessibility and flow.
The first two floors were designed to house a daycare center, educational and public spaces; the third floor is dedicated to administrative offices; and the six upper floors were redesigned to support one and two-bedroom apartments meeting HUD and ADA requirements.
