HOOVER HIGH SCHOOL
The Hoover High School campus is designed to inspire scholastic achievement and foster community participation and recreation. Located on a steep, rural, 60-acre wooded site near the Cahaba River, the site’s natural surroundings heavily influenced the overall campus plan.
Conceived as a replacement facility for 2,400 students, the Hoover High School complex consists of two buildings: a U-shaped academic building and an activities building housing two gymnasiums, a theater, and a cafeteria. The two buildings are carefully sited to frame outdoor spaces and views to their natural surroundings. Community participation is encouraged and, by separating the buildings, recreation is enabled without compromising student focus or security of the academic wing.
