AMBULATORY CARE CENTER
Having outgrown its existing hospital building, Children’s Health System asked Giattina Aycock Architecture Studio to review and revamp their Campus Master Plan to allow for expansion of surgery, sub-specialty clinics and physicians’ offices.
In response, a new Ambulatory Care wing was added to the main Children’s Hospital building, positioned to enable access for outpatients without meandering through corridors of the existing Hospital.
With bright primary accent colors, light ash wood paneling and skylights illuminating sculptural mobiles of birds and fish, the clinics are designed with young users in mind. Circulation is simple and straightforward, with ten sub-specialty clinic modules organized along a linear mall.
To allow for modernization and expansion, the hospital’s surgery center was relocated into the new wing, and now includes twelve state-of-the-art operating rooms featuring a skylit sterile corridor, a 24-bay post-anesthesia care unit and 32 private holding rooms.
