JUNIOR / INTERMEDIATE ARCHITECTS

In the course of 50 years of practice in Birmingham, Alabama, GA studio has developed a regional reputation for design with an acute grasp of the issues of construction. Through a rigorous, rationalist approach to problem solving, we have produced decades of built work that strengthens our clients, enhances the community and advances the profession.

Our current practice aims to transform construction through a unique methodology which integrates manufacturing into a design-build approach that we call Design Manufacture Construct (DMC). To that end, we have built a highly capable manufacturing facility in Bessemer where we develop, test, and manufacture building components to support our goal of producing the highest quality Architecture that performs twice as well, and at half the cost as traditional delivery methods. This unique approach has extended our well-earned reputation nationally.

We are currently seeking passionate architects with a penchant for detailed problem solving and 1 – 10 years of experience to support our work on a number of exciting projects across the country. Proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit is required; strong conceptual, technical, and graphic skills are desired, along with the ability to work in a variety of roles within a quickly evolving practice.

DIGITAL FABRICATION MANAGER

For Immediate Hire

We are looking for a smart, nimble and talented problem solver to help with the formation of our Digital Fabrication and Robotic lab with 1-10 years experience. The position is responsible for R&D and implementation of automated fabrication practices within the Design Manufacturing and Construction (DMC) approach to building. This is a challenging and critical project within the organization and the candidate will have significant opportunity for growth.

Individual must be hands-on problem solvers, personally driven to make everything around them better be able to visualize in 3D, work independently and within a team. Ideally, individual need to be comfortable in a start-up environment (i.e. flexible, creative, pro-active, responsive, good sense of humor, and able to deal with ambiguity), process oriented, computer savvy, mechanically inclined and willing to learn new things.

Education: Master’s Degree in robotic engineering or related studies in digital fabrication

Essential Skills:
• Experience with 3D Printing applications and hardware
• Previous experience with CNC and Robotic Hardware
• Familiar with computer programming
• Ability to analyze and solve problems efficiently
• Ability to read and interpret drawings
• Must be a critical thinker with problem solving skills
• Ability to coordinate and communicate effectively with team members
• Willingness to work with a diverse group of people

Duties & Responsibilities:
• Conduct and lead R&D efforts in developing robotic construction systems around material development and component creation
• Develop and document processes for maintaining and implementing automated machinery in BLOX workflows.
• Work with and communicate regularly with design and construction management teams to improve current processes through automation.
• Maintain and support a positive work culture of high employee engagement

MEP MATERIALS SPECIFICATION COORDINATOR

We are currently seeking detailed-oriented individual with strong process and organizational skills. The position is responsible for supporting the planning, organization and control of the Bill of Materials throughout the construct process. This individual must proactively manage the Bill of Materials process under the current concept while assisting in the definition, development and realization of the “future” state. The Materials Specification Coordinator will utilize supplied estimates, and detailed drawing information to create the Bill of Materials and Operation Routings that make up the methods of Design, Manufacture, Construct.

Duties and Responsibilities include:

• Reviewing and developing product and material specifications
• Reviewing product submittals and coordinating submittals with vendors, engineers, and architects
• Quantity take-offs for products and materials at various stages of design
• Researching alternative products as approved equals
• Organizing approved submittals and product data across multiple projects
• Coordinating quantity take-offs and approved products with BOM for multiple product lines
• Ability to work collectively and cohesively in an open team environment
• Solid foundation of reading engineering specifications to determine needs
• Will serve as a bridge between design + construction
• Will capture product information and coordinate with purchasing

Required Skills:
• B.S. degree in Design, Engineering, or Construction equivalent experience required
• Specification writing experience
• Ability to prioritize workload and meet deadlines
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Ideal candidate would have MEP design experience
• Ability to succeed in a collaborative and open environment
